Its proving to be incredibly difficult to find an engine for it. As far as I can tell from multiple sources, the nearest one is in Idaho. So I’m gonna have a mechanic friend of mine come look at it on Monday to see if slapping on a new head gasket and flushing the milkshake out without replacing bearings and milling the head and block is feasible. But regardless of what I have to do, it will run again.

I’m late to the party here... What’s the story with this? Besides being fucking awesome of course.

How long has it sat?
![]() 01/26/2017 at 22:12 |

Does it not share an engine with anything else?

I’ll bet you could source some eBay parts to get her going again.

What about an older Sidekick/Tracker 1.6? Seems like there should be a few of those around.

The base model pre 1998 Chevy/Geo Tracker/Suzuki sidekick. Which hardly anybody bought

![]() 01/26/2017 at 22:17 |

Damn, good luck finding one then.
![]() 01/26/2017 at 22:18 |

from a previous post, I believe it shares similar engines, but nothing has the same engine.
![]() 01/26/2017 at 22:18 |

Nope, most trackers/sidekicks around here had the optional 1.8
![]() 01/26/2017 at 22:18 |

As long as it’ll swap right in.

Ditch the traveling explosions.
Use electrons instead.

Different trans? Or will it mount up with a different bellhousing maybe? If they are more available it could be worth it
![]() 01/26/2017 at 22:24 |
|
From what Ive Heard the 1.8, 2.0 and 1.6 all would hook up to the same bell housing. But I’m worried about ecu, wiring, and gauges

If there was ever a candidate for an electric conversion U have it
![]() 01/26/2017 at 22:31 |
|
Eh, not bad. But the exhaust smokes and it has trouble getting started and is down on power
![]() 01/26/2017 at 22:33 |

Unfortunately, the 1.6 doesn’t share the same bellhousing as the 1.8 and 2.0 (which do).
But! There’s this option:

All I can hear is that your doing an LS swap
![]() 01/26/2017 at 22:51 |

can you give us details of the engine so the oppo hive mind can find one?
does it bave a specific engine code?
do you know years, makes, models, trim levels of other cars that have it?
![]() 01/26/2017 at 22:55 |

I guess it may not be that big a deal to flush the oil and see what happens. Might be more thorough to drop the oil pan though.

Just go whole hog and swap in a Honda K24. Wait is the engine in this transverse?

Suzuki G16B 1.6L 16 valve I4
It was in a 1996-1998 Suzuki sidekick, 1996-1998 Geo Tracker and the 1996-1997 Suzuki X-90
![]() 01/26/2017 at 23:14 |

No, its longitudinal
![]() 01/26/2017 at 23:19 |

Wow that crazy. I bet you could fit a small V6 in there.
![]() 01/26/2017 at 23:26 |
|
Although a small block Ford may fit ok too
![]() 01/26/2017 at 23:27 |
|
PRobably not actually. The 1.6 barely fits
![]() 01/26/2017 at 23:32 |
|
Huh, maybe a 1.9 TDI? Seriously they are tiny even for a single cam. That would really change the driving experience lol.
![]() 01/27/2017 at 05:11 |
|
According to Jalopnik even a V8 will fit ... Good luck with the rebuild!
![]() 01/27/2017 at 06:07 |

Well at least it’s only $1 worst case you can scrap it and make some money off it

I keep telling ya man, it’s dying for an engine swap. Whether it be an ecotec or a K20 or whatever else you can find in large numbers.
![]() 01/27/2017 at 09:14 |

Get that engine machined, ported and blue printed, haha.
![]() 01/27/2017 at 09:15 |

It’s the same frame and front end as the V6 Tracker/Vitara.The V6 should fit.

That was the first place I looked. They’re all too far from me

Insert Harley motor.
![]() 01/27/2017 at 10:14 |

So find one in a salvage yard and take the ECU and wiring harness as well. It’s a $1 car, who cares if all the gauges don’t work?
![]() 01/27/2017 at 10:50 |
|
That would be hilarious
![]() 01/27/2017 at 10:52 |

“Who cars of all the gauges don’t work?”
Colorado inspection employees. Gauges are a requirement. Also its for the gf, she want working gauges
